In addition to those artforms and practices that have been the mainstay of Creative Scotland’s Regular Funding in the past, we know that artists and audiences are constantly evolving new forms of creativity.
These emerging forms respond to changes in our technological and natural environments, our changing world of work and the ways in which communities understand and express themselves. In order to ensure that our network supports these emergent forms of practice, we have included some organisations that have demonstrated their ability to work across creative and networked technology, linking design, digital and the development of communities of professional practice.
Two of these organisations - Creative Dundee and Creative Edinburgh - have built strong reputations as imaginative catalysts for creative communities in their home cities, but also across Scotland and internationally. They are fleet-of-foot and widely connected, contributing both to the development of creative individuals as well as civic agendas ensuring the potential of creativity is widely shared and appreciated.
The network for the first time includes an organisation working specifically with creative technology and network culture – NEoN. This organisation has grown from an annual festival to demonstrate its robust support for the development and presentation of work by artists working with digital, on-line and interactive technology. As part of a creative cluster operating in Dundee, the organisation also has strong links to the games community in that city as well as into partner organisations in Edinburgh and internationally.
