Norman&Corrie are challenging traditional notions of folk and jazz with new pieces translated from ancestral melodies, first discovered by the pair during a residency in Shetland where they spent time learning from tradition-bearers and explored the music archives of the Shetland Museum.
Norman, a Shetlander, and Corrie, from Glasgow, each have deep respect for their shared heritage, their music bridging the gap between tradition and innovation. They are immersed in Scotland’s jazz and contemporary music scene, and infuse ancestral melodies with modern production techniques and instruments to startling effect.
Corrie regularly performs with Dinosaur, Jacob Collier and Rob Luft, while Norman has worked with Peatbog Faeries, Beth Orton and corto.alto. Their unique setup as a duo, featuring a drum kit, saxophone and organ foot pedals, combined with expert sound design, results in music that’s both vibrant and firmly rooted.
