Donald Sharples, Booker
Donald is a resident of Aberdeenshire and a retired oil and gas professional of many years standing, working both locally and internationally in various technical, management and consultancy roles.
Since retiring Donald has worked extensively in music promotion and the voluntary sector. In this capacity he has worked with a lot of young musicians on the Scottish scene. He is one of the founders of Jazz At The Blue Lamp in Aberdeen and currently serves as booker for the club. He has been instrumental in initiating various international collaborations for Scottish and European musicians.
Donald is keen on the outdoors, gardening, baking bread, cultural exchanges and is and is trying to learn to play the saxophone, so far with limited success.
Jazz at the Blue Lamp
Jazz At The Blue Lamp consists of a group of jazz fans in Aberdeen who came together to present the best of jazz from Scotland, the UK and around the world. The work is done on a voluntary basis and is supported by Jazz Scotland, Creative Scotland, Aberdeen City Council and others. The group put on concerts at the Blue Lamp Pub at the Hardgate in Aberdeen on Thursdays. Jazz At The Blue Lamp was the winner of the UK Parliamentary Jazz Awards as Jazz Venue Of The Year 2023.
